Our Cities – Mizan Amman Southwest Ethiopia

Mizan Aman city is one of the seat of Southwest Ethiopia People’s Region and serves as the main seat of Bench Sheko Zone.

The city is located at a distance of 568 kilometers from our capital, Addis Ababa, and it is said that it was founded in 1930.

It is said that the town of Mizan Aman was named Mizan Teferi in the reign of King Emperor Haile Selassie by Fitaurari Alemayehu Flate, who was appointed to manage the area.

History also mentions that the city was founded to commemorate the birthday of Emperor Haile Selassie.

Located at an altitude of 1,451 meters above sea level, Mizan Amman is a city covered in green landscape and has a mild climate.

Balanced with potential natural resources, Amman is surrounded by large forest reserves and is known for its fruit and spice products, including coffee. It is also known as green development field.

Mizan Amman is a livable city divided into 2 sub-districts.

In addition to private schools, there are more than 5 high schools, 3 colleges and Mizan Tepe University in the city.

Standard star and international hotels are also available in the city.

The “Denbi” man-made dam and the Dunbi waterfall, which is a beautiful and natural scene falling from a height of 30 meters, is located 8.5 km from Mizan Amman city and is one of the city’s tourism destinations.

The city of Mizan Amman, which is praised as “Shunkton” (city of love) in the local language, is also called “Little Ethiopia” because of its tolerance and hospitality.
