The number of mobile service customers in Ethiopia has reached 85 million
The number of customers of government and private telecom service providers in Ethiopia has reached 85 million, said Frehiwot Tamru, CEO of Ethio Telecom.
In the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) and other senior government officials, there was a discussion on the activities carried out to achieve Digital Ethiopia and the next areas of focus.
The CEO of Ethio Telecom, Frehiwot Tamru, who participated in the panel discussion at the forum, listed the expansions and changes made in the telecom sector.
With this, the number of mobile service customers of private and government telecom service providers has reached 85 million.
He also mentioned that the two telecom service providers in Ethiopia have created a network capacity that can handle more than 96 million.
According to the European calendar, in 2018, the number of Internet users in Ethiopia was 17 million and currently it has reached 41 million.
He mentioned that a data center with a carrying capacity of 6.3 megawatts (IT load) has been built through a public-private partnership. They mentioned that this has an important role to make digital Ethiopia a reality.
They also highlighted the ways in which the development of digital payments through policy reforms can increase the value of the built infrastructure.
